KABUL: On National Journalist's Day, the Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) honored veteran journalist Mujahid Kakar with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his distinguished career in journalism.
This award recognizes his unwavering commitment to excellence and integrity in his profession. Mujahid Kakar, a well-known TOLOnews reporter, has recently been diagnosed with blood cancer and is currently receiving treatment in Germany. He has been in a medically induced coma for the past two weeks due to lung failure as a result of chemotherapy. There has been slight improvement in his condition over the past two days and the doctors are optimistic about his recovery.
"Our colleague, Mujahid Kakar, is still receiving intensive care in one of the hospitals in Aachen, Germany," said Lotfullah Najafizada, Head of TOLOnews.
Kakar joined TOLO TV in 2005 and worked in different roles including translating, presenting and hosting political programs.
The annual Afghanistan Journalists Center Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges individuals who have made exceptional contributions to journalism in Afghanistan throughout their careers. Candidates from all forms of media (print, broadcast, digital) and various journalism categories (news, business, politics, cartoon, arts, etc.) are eligible for consideration. The recipient must have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to journalistic standards and ideals, serving as a role model to inspire excellence among others.
By commemorating National Journalist's Day in a country devastated by war, AFJC pays tribute to the efforts and dedication of reporters who risk their lives to deliver news.
