Noted journalist dies after long battle with cancer

Kabul: Noted journalists and TV and radio newscaster Jan Aqa Alokozai passed away at a hospital in Vienna, Austria a relative said on Tuesday.

Journalist Mohammad Hassan Wolesmal, also Alokozai’s father-in-law, told Pajhwok that Alokozai died on Tuesday after a protracted battle against cancer.

“Alokozai had been in the field of journalism for nearly 30 years and was one of the successful news presenters, who conducted important interviews in Afghanistan,” he said.

He had worked with Azadi Radio for several years, the Afghanistan National Radio and Television and some other media outlets. He leaves behind five children.

The death of Alokozai was a big loss for journalism in Afghanistan, said his colleague Ajmal Torman. Alokozai joined the Azadi Radio in 2002 and had been working as editor and newscaster.

The administration of Afghanistan Journalists Center, deeply saddened by the death of Alokozai, prayed to Allah to rest his soul in peace and extended condolences to his family and friends.
