Afghanistan Journalists Center condemns the humiliation and beating of a local journalist, Mukhtar Wafayee by unknown gunmen, in strongest terms and called in the Afghan government to seriously pursue the case.
The incident happened near Bakhtar highshchool, in Northern Mazar-e-Sharif down town on Monday around 10 pm, local time.
Local journalist, Noor Agha Sharifi, said to AFJC, that, the two unknown individual has criticized and insulted him for what they called publishing propaganda, and then severally beaten him.
Afghanistan Journalists Center expresses serious concerns about the increase of such incidents of violations against reporters in a critical time that the country is preparing for the presidential and local council elections.
The AFJC request the Afghan government to ensure the freedom of media activities by ensuring the security and supporting the reporters’ rights by holding the violators accountable for their acts.
