Kabul: A suicide bomber in Kabul detonated explosives on Wednesday evening targeting a civilian bus that was carrying over 30 staff from Kaboora Production, which is a sister entity to TOLO TV, Lemar TV, Arman FM, Arakozia FM and TOLOnews.
At least seven staff members were killed in the attack and 26 injured.
The official statement from TOLO TV states: "We condemn these terrorist attacks that kill innocent Afghans. We wait for an update from security and government officials on the details of the attack."
The incident took place just after 5 pm on the Darul Aman Road close to the Russian Embassy.
According to media reports, a bomber in a Toyota targeted the minibus carrying employees of a Tolo-owned production company.
According to the NBC News, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack as a "cowardly act," while Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah called it an assault on media who work "tirelessly" to keep the nation informed.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center strongly condemns the coward terrorist attack.
“Today was really a dark day for the Afghan media and we deeply shocked and saddened by this barbaric attack, our thoughts and prayers are with innocent lives terrorists took today, said Ahmad Quraishi, AFJC executive director. we call on national unity government to seek out and prosecute the perpetrators of this crime as quickly as possible, Mr Quraishi added.
The threat was looming large since four months ago .The Taliban said in October it no longer considered the Tolo TV and 1 TV stations media outlets but military targets, calling them "satanic" and "spearhead" of propaganda promoting the "invasion" of Afghanistan by infidels.
"No employee, anchor, office, news team and reporter of these TV channels holds any immunity," the group said in an alarming statement at the time.
