The US-based Committee to Protect Journalists honored two Afghan journalists with its 2008 International Press Freedom Awards at a ceremony.

Danish Karokhel and Farida Nekzad of Pajhwok Afghan News were awarded in a ceremony in New York.

Mr Karokhel said while receiving the award: “This award is given to us due to efforts and professional reporting of our team in Pajhwok.”

Bilal Hussein of Iraq, Andrew Mwenda of Uganda, and Héctor Maseda Gutiérrez of Cuba have also been awarded for their tough and brave work.

The Information and Culture Minister of Afghanistan Abdul Karim Khurram said the award to Pajhwok journalists was a pride for the people of Afghanistan.

He said his ministry will also hold an honoring ceremony for Pajhwok and its journalists as a successful media outlet and courageous journalists.

Pajhwok Afghan News also had received other awards before this one in the previous years.
