Rahin: NDS should explain holding of Mujaddidi

The minister of information and culture Syed Makhdom Rahin asked the National Directorate of Security for explaination and justification about holding of Hujatullah Mujaddidi whose detention has entered the fourth month.

In a ceremony marking the second anniversary of establishment of the Media and Information Center here, Rahin he was yet to receive official justification of keeping Mujaddidi in jail by NDS.

“He is still held. I ask the National Directorate of Security from this tribune to publicly explain why they have kept this young journalist since months,” said Rahin.

Mr Mujaddidi was detained by the NDS in Kapisa province where he was working on 27 Sunbala 1389.

He had remained director of the state radio and television of Kapisa province for five years and was dismissed a month before his detention after disagreements with the provincial governor Ghulam Ghaus Abu Bakr.

NDS has earlier said that Mujaddidi was detained for his connections with terrorist groups. However, his father and brother have rejected the accusation saying it was a mere conspiracy against him.

The Center to Support Journalists of Afghanistan calls on NDS to end holding the 'suspected journalist' for months without any evidences.

CSJ also asks President Hamid Karzai to intervene in the long illegal detention of Mujaddidi and prevent intimidation of journalists by the name of justice.
