Rahin warns TVs of punishment for obscenity

KABUL, Feb 18, 2011

The Media Violations Commission under the Ministry of Information and Culture has warned television channels that they would be legally chased and tried for airing obscene and indecent clips.

In its regular meeting on Feb 14, the commission chaired by the minister of information and culture Syed Makhdoom Rahin said broadcasting half-naked scenes were against Islam and the Afghan culture any channels caught doing it would be chased according to the law.

A statement issued by the commission said the decision was taken after complaints about some channels breaching the rules of decency as preserved in the media law.

Visual media has been frequently criticized and threatened not to ignore the moral limits and rules and that they would be punished for any un-Islamic contents aired.
