On January 6, 2025, Din Mohammad Mostaghni, the de facto director of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice department in Nuristan province announced a ban on the publication of images depicting living beings during a meeting attended by the de facto governor and local officials. The ban, reportedly based on Article 17 of the Law on the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has resulted in the immediate suspension of visual reporting by both state and private media outlets in the province. This includes the provincial branches of National Television and Bakhtar News Agency. Additionally, three private radio stations—Alina, Sola Sahar, and Paroon Ghag—are active within Nuristan. According to local sources, the provincial branch of the National Television, which previously did not produce local programming and relied on broadcasts from Kabul, has ceased operations. It has consequently transitioned to a radio-only format, reflecting the increased restrictions on visual media in the region. |
