Jalalabad, Nangarhar Province – Two journalists were injured during a confrontation between the de facto and Pakistani forces at the Torkham border crossing, local sources reported.

Aziz-ul-Hassan Numani, a reporter for Radio Hurriyat, and Wali Mohammad Shinwari, a cameraman for Pajhwok Afghan News Agency, sustained injuries from gunfire on the afternoon of March 5. Additionally, Shamshad TV reporter Hidayat Shah Hidayat was also affected by the incident.

According to a local journalist in Jalalabad, Numani and Hidayat were transported to Jalalabad Central Hospital, while Shinwari was taken to a clinic in Shinwari district. Hidayat was treated and discharged, but Numani and Shinwari remain hospitalized for further treatment.

Quraishi Badlon, the de facto information director for Nangarhar's Department of Information and Culture, confirmed that the injured journalists are in stable condition.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) expressed concern over the incident, wishing for the swift recovery of the injured reporters. AFJC urged journalists to exercise caution while covering conflict situations and to adhere to safety protocols, including the use of protective gear.

The Torkham border crossing has been closed for 13 days amid escalating tensions and exchanges of fire between local and Pakistani forces, reportedly triggered by disputes over the establishment of border facilities.
